Day 4 - Teaching Gen Z How to Think, Not Just What to Think It's
Jul 09, 2025Day 4 - Teaching Gen Z How to Think, Not Just What to Think It's and today we dig into discipleship in the digital age. We often focus our ministries on teaching people what to believe. While doctrine is vital, we miss the mark when we fail to teach people how to think, reason, and seek God for themselves. This is especially true for Gen Z. I remember when my son Joshua Caleb was heading off to college. He told me, "Dad, you taught me what to think, but not how to think."
That moment pierced my heart. It convicted me deeply and changed how I disciple others. I realized I had to move from indoctrination to transformation. Gen Z doesn't need a rulebook-they need a roadmap. They don't need religion-they need relationship. This generation is spiritually curious. They ask hard questions. They challenge ideas. And that's a good thing. They're not rebellious. They're seeking clarity and authenticity. Discipleship must move from information to revelation. It means engaging Scripture, not just quoting it. It means letting them wrestle with truth until it becomes their own.
It means modeling a faith that invites questions instead of shutting them down. We must also teach discernment. In a world filled with influencers, ideologies, and spiritual trends, Gen Z needs to know how to test the spirits, rightly divide the Word, and be led by the Holy Spirit. Tomorrow, we'll discuss what's already happening-revival among Gen Z on college campuses-and why most of the world doesn't even see it coming.
